Hello, and welcome to Merton! My name is James Nation, a 2nd year historian and I will be your JCR President for the upcoming year. First things first, congratulations on getting a place at Oxford! I'll take this opportunity to wish you a fantastic time at University, beginning with what promises to be a quality Freshers' week. This remains honestly one of the best weeks of my life and I really hope that you will enjoy the many activities on offer. At Merton, we're fortunate enough to be part of a vibrant and thriving community and although you may feel slightly apprehensive about leaving home and coming to University (I know I was!) I hope that soon you will feel right at home at this fantastic college. As your President, I'm responsible for representing the JCR to college committees and the wider university as well as making sure that the Exec and I perform our jobs to a high standard. I'm fortunate enough to be working with a brilliant Exec this year, all of them legends in their own right, and we'll be on hand at all times to ensure that no question is left unanswered. So, please, anything at all whether it's how to top up a meal card or if you're just up for a chat, don't hesitate to get in touch. You are always welcome to give my room a buzz (St. Albans 4:1), phone me or send me an email. I will also happily respond to any questions you have before you even arrive – just let me know. Hiya, I'm Sabrina and I'm the Vice President for the year. Mostly, I'll take care of JCR Meeting Motions and Minutes (all will be made clear in the first week, hopefully!) as well as Room Ballots for your second year, Open Days, and Interviews (where hopefully I met many of you way back in October!). Can't wait to meet everyone and hopefully have an excellent year. I'm always happy to chat and answer questions (just try getting me to shut up) so do get in touch!

I also preside over all JCR elections and hustings, help Walter de Merton to write the Merton News, and put on the fortnightly Bar Quiz.
