Map
Oxford may not be large, but it's full of things to do. Here for your amusement are some of my favourite locations.

Never fear if you do get hopelessly lost – the Merton superheroes may be on-hand to save you! Or, failing that, just telephone the college (possibly a more reliable option).
Driving to Merton is actually a lot harder than these nonchalant Mertonians make it look. Although, having said that, they do seem to have arrived at the middle of a field, rather than Merton Street.
Getting to Merton
Oxford is not a good place to drive a car. It has many pedestrian-only areas, bus-gates, and a complex one-way system. It would be a very good idea to get a map and plan out your journey in advance. Whichever direction you approach Oxford from, it is easiest to circle the Ring Road (the A34 then A4074 if approached from the north or west, and the A4142 if approached from the south) to the junction with the A4158, to the south-east of the city. This road becomes the Iffley Road if you follow it straight ahead; ignore the left turn signposted “City Centre” (the B4495) – this leads (confusingly) to the wrong part of the city centre, and has caught me out many a time. Then, at the top of Iffley Road, go over the roundabout, and cross the Magdalen Bridge. After crossing the bridge, the first left is Rose Lane, where many freshers have their rooms (see “The First Day” on page 5), and Merton Street is the second left. If you are using a GPS, Merton's postcode is OX1 4JD.
