Hi, I'm Alistair, a second year English and French student, and I'm going to be your entz co-ordinator next year. My job is to organise and get people to come along to all the exciting entertainment Jonathan and I have arranged for the next year such as bops, club nights and more one-off events such as the casino night and karaoke. If you have any questions at all about the social side of Oxford life, don't hesitate to ask.

Hello everyone, I'm Jonathan a second year Mathmo in charge of all the money which me and Alistair (commonly known as Hobo) will use to make sure you have a fantastic first year at Merton. Our aim is to provide something for everyone, so that no matter what your interests are there will always be something that tickles your fancy. Also your feedback is very important to us, so if you have any questions whatsoever or would like a particular event, feel free to contact myself or Alistair at any time. I look forward to meeting you all in Freshers' Week.
Mertonians throw a good party, in hedonistic and controversial style, at the ever-popular BOPs!
Jon and Hobo on Entz
Entz in Oxford stands, of course, for entertainment and we're here to make your year as fun as possible. Whether you consume alcohol like there is no tomorrow or are more modest in your drinking habits, love going out and dancing like an epileptic sheep or prefer a quiet night in with a few mates, we'll have something to suit you. For further information of the fun and games ahead, you should check the Entz termcard, available on the JCR website, on the Merton Entz Facebook group, and in an email shortly before the start of term. The be-all and end-all events of the Merton social calendar are the legendary, scandalous, and highly eventful Breaches of the Peace, more commonly known as BOPs. These are essentially fortnightly college parties held in the Pavilion with a professional lighting and sound system, as well as Merton's resident superstar DJs, the Entz reps! Of course every BOP is themed, with the first of this term being "Wild West" (think cowboys, tomahawks, Stetsons, and big, big trousers) so dressing up is all part of the fun. You know it's the day of a BOP when Primark is filled with Mertonians desperately seeking a last minute costume. Not everyone opts to dress up but BOPs are definitely a time for all members of College to get together and er... "get together" (It won't escape Walter – Ed).
The, ahem, solemn dignity of the Time Ceremony in full swing, with the port in full flow.
In your first term you'll also have the unique Merton Time Ceremony to look forward to, a tongue-in-cheek tradition involving lots of Latin, subfusc, port and walking backwards round Fellow's Quad at two in the morning, all to make sure that the universe's time continuum remains in order. Of course, not all Oxford social life is centred around College. You can find out more about the various places to dine, drink and dance the night away in our separate entz guide. Hope you enjoy the year ahead, and can't wait to meet you all in October!
