Merton JCR facilities

There are plenty of places to go in Merton to take your mind off work!

The TV Room is open 24 hours a day, with Sky TV - with a whole plethora of digital TV channels including Sky Movies and Sky Sports - and a DVD player. The daily JCR newspapers tend to find themselves in here too. Situated right next door is the JCR Kitchen - a well equipped kitchen that you can use when you want a break from hall food! Opposite the JCR Kitchen and TV Room is the JCR (Junior Common Room) itself: a room which has a pool table, comfy sofas and is a place to generally lounge about!

The games room, situated just opposite the bar, has another free pool table (the university supposedly only has four, so that's two of them accounted for then: they're right here at Merton!) as well as various games machines, vending machines, darts and table football.

Then of course there is the bar which is the hub of college social activities; it is the easiest place to meet before going out for the evening, the place to pick up drinks before formal hall, and the place to retreat for comfort before, after or during a work crisis.

The bar acts as the college common room and lots of people just pop in for a relaxing drink and a chat during the evening.

For a fairly small establishment the bar serves a remarkable variety of drinks

Variety
For a fairly small establishment the bar serves a wide variety of drinks; all of them heavily subsidised: a pint is around £1.90, l a shot just over a £1, and soft drinks about 60p. There are several types of lager and beer and a wide range of both slightly peculiar and mainstream spirit. Pimm's and lemonade in a particularly popular combo during the summer term. All drinks are served with a friendly smile by everyone's favourite barman - Dave.

It also has a jukebox with an eclectic range of music which is updated now and again, and every term there is a karaoke night, which generally ends up with everyone standing on the tables singing along.
