Chemistry
Applying to Oxford from a state school is very daunting and the whole application process seems very mysterious at first. The reputation which Oxford interviews have put off many, but from my experience they were a fantastic opportunity to meet like-minded people and find out about the place you may be studying in for the next 3 or more years.
My interviews were really interesting as I felt that I was being encouraged to use my intuition and link ideas and concepts in new ways. Everyone is apprehensive at first but once you really start the interview and find your feet it is a great experience. I made several good friends during the interview period and it was great to see some familiar faces on day one.
Life at Merton is hectic and the weeks fly by- the workload is heavy (probably more so than for other colleges) but it is very rewarding. Everyone is friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is one of tranquillity to combat the rush of day to day life.
Whatever your interests, Merton helps you to develop them and, with the strong sense of community here, settling in and making Merton your home happens very quickly. If you think you have the stamina and enthusiasm for your subject then Oxford - and Merton College in particular - could be a great place to apply to.
