Academic Affairs Representative: Hustings 4th OGM HT11

Thinking about running? Speak to Rob Jeffrey or just turn up to the OGM on Sunday March 4th, 8.30pm, in the JCR.

About Hustings & Elections

There are two levels of position in the JCR that require some form of election. The first is by 'hustings' for a position on the JCR Committee. The second are 'elections' for a position on the JCR Exec.

Hustings

These occur at OGMs throughout the year. You simply declare your nomination at the meeting and take a seat on the couch. You give a short summary speech as to why you are best suited for the position and take questions from the floor. The full procedure can be seen in the Standing Orders.

Elections

These are much grander events. Nominations are submitted for each position to the IRO according to stringent regulations (again, in the SO's), including written permission from your academic tutor. Once nominations close, hustings are held for that position between the valid candidates. At a later date, votes are cast using an Alternative Vote system. Results are announced on the evening of voting day.
